OVERVIEW
Wheel & Roller Re-Covering
- Extend the life of existing rollers and wheels with ML6 polyurethane recoating and refurbishment services.
- Ideal for drive rollers, idlers, wheels, and specialty components across a wide range of industries.
- Precision stripping, surface prep, and remolding ensures like-new performance at a fraction of replacement cost.
- Fast turnaround, tight tolerances, and the same ML6 polyurethane quality used in new production parts.
Polyurethane wheel recoating and refurbishment is a cost-effective, sustainable solution for restoring worn rollers, wheels, and components to like-new condition. Instead of scrapping and replacing expensive parts, Meridian Laboratory reprocesses your existing cores by stripping the worn material, preparing the surface, and remolding with our proprietary ML6 polyurethane.
Recoating is available for a wide range of components including drive wheels, idler rollers, pinch rollers, contact wheels, and other rotating elements. We accommodate OEM cores, custom-built parts, and customer-supplied hardware across industries such as automation, converting, packaging, aerospace, printing, and more.
Each part is restored with the same precision as our new production components ensuring tight runout tolerances, proper durometer selection, and strong polyurethane-to-core bond strength. Refurbished parts are molded to final dimensions without secondary machining, resulting in a pristine surface finish and improved quality and friction over OEM supplied parts.
Meridian Laboratory’s refurbishment process supports all common core materials including aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and engineered plastics. If needed, we can machine new cores or replace damaged ones prior to recoating.
With a focus on quality and competitive pricing, Meridian Laboratory’s ML6 refurbishment services are the smart alternative to pricey replacements for unique equipment, oftentimes while being able to perform better than the OEM’s offering.

FAQs
Common Urethane Wheel Recoating & Refurbishment Questions
What makes ML6® polyurethane different from other polyurethanes and materials?
ML6® is unique in that it can hold very tight tolerances without grinding or post-cure finishing. This leaves a perfect surface finish that has a better coefficient of friction, and is impervious to contamination since the cell structure is not opened through grinding or machining. This results in a better performing and longer lasting part. More information regarding the advantages of ML6 can be found here.
Can I send you an existing part to replicate?
Yes, we can reverse-engineer existing parts by scanning, measuring, and inspecting samples. We’ll match or enhance the original design to deliver a high-performance polyurethane replacement part tailored to your application. Contact us to learn more!
Do I need to remove the old material before I send you the part being recoated?
It’s not required, Meridian Laboratory can remove the existing polyurethane coating as part of our refurbishment process. However, customers who strip old material prior to sending in their parts may benefit from cost and lead time savings. Either way, we’ll ensure the surface is properly prepared for recoating to guarantee strong adhesion and long-lasting performance. Contact us to learn more.
What is the largest length or diameter of part you can produce?
We can mold ML6® polyurethane onto parts up to 18 inches in diameter and approximately 28” in length. Contact us with your specific dimensions and we’ll confirm feasibility based on tooling and equipment.
Can I send in worn or existing parts to be recoated with ML6® polyurethane?
Yes! Recoating old rollers and parts is a very cost-effective method for salvaging old parts. Once we receive the parts, we will prepare the surfaces that are to be coated, as no surface preparation needs to be done by the customer. We will then process your worn parts, prepare, and mold them to the desired final specifications and they will have the same quality and precision as new ML6 molded polyurethane products.
Do you offer repair services for shaft journals or metal cores themselves?
Yes, we offer full-service repair, including cleaning, surface prep, and minor machining or refinishing of metal cores, journals, and bearing pockets before recoating. Click here to learn more about our recoating services.
